I must commend both Mink, JMO, and Saunterelle for sticking around here. They seem to be the only liberals ah, socialists no, that isn't what they are calling themselves either ... Progressives ! That's it! Progressives who have the courage of their convictions and stick around even though they keep getting their heads handed to them.
So many seem to pop in, then leave when we don't fawn on their every word and treat it as Gospel. I guess it is hard to debate when all you have is emotion and shallow talking points.

I must commend both Mink, JMO, and Saunterelle for sticking around here. I respect all of them (even though we don't agree on some issues), they are class acts that debate in a civil way, without resorting to flaming. If only politicians (in all parties) behaved like most on this board do, our country would be in much better shape, IMO.

Thanks guys, I really do appreciate the difference in opinion presented here. It should get interesting as we approach the November election.
In my hometown most people are liberal like me. It's interesting to hear about politics from the other point of view. In college I took an interest in following politics and paying more attention to the world around me. I've got respect for you all for paying attention too, even if our opinions differ.

subdjoe, I'd missed this post, we just got back from Idaho, and while I did have Internet access I didn't stay on long. I didn't know that I fit into a stereotypical box. Especially since I stay away from political debates for the most part. Thanks, I think...

As for everyone else here, I don't always agree with differing opinions, but I do value them. I am grateful to live in an environment that allows difference, if we were all the same it would be boring, and opportunity to see through another's eyes would be lost.

JMO, I almost didn't include you in that box. You tend to be more toward moderate, but you do have some drift towards the left sometimes. And, you do have the courage to say what you thing.

I would agree that "moderate" fits since I don't agree with assuming an extreme position just for the sake of it. I support extreme actions like war if it's deemed necessary, I support helping others if they help themselves, or are true victims of circumstance, I keep an open mind to changing the status quo if it benefits the majority, and most of all I believe in respecting differences and keeping an open mind to new possibilities, no not terrorists etc. Like Bolverk mentioned in another post we need a "none of the above" category since I don't see how extreme positions right, or left will move us forward as a country I think instead the divide will continue to grow as people react out of fear instead of logic and reason. I would prefer as a society we think of ourselves as UNITED Americans of the UNITED States and if that means kicking tail in another country, or lending a helping hand to those in need let's do our best to meet the challenges as one instead of bickering like school children. Moderate?

Well, in these here parts, that makes you a somewhat to the right of the John Birch Society. For most of the rest of the country that makes you moderate.
