This is scary: illinoiscarry.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11649What next? Will they call on the registered owners of cars if, say, a 'late model BMW, dark blue" is seen to do a hit and run? Will the owners of all late model dark blue BMWs be asked to bring them in for the cops to look at? All they have done is telll the murderer to change the barrel on his gun. Or ditch it. This makes me feel SO much safer. Right. (disclaimer for the progressives here - No, I do not support murder. I hope that the cowardly thug gets caught and hung, drawn and quartered - literally would be nice. I do not want him to get a liberal slap on the wrist, have to write a note saying how sorry he is and sing Kumbya in the town square.)

Since my wife, the skeptic of anything conservative, didn't believe this post, I tracked down the original article in the Tulsa World. What I found was a series of 28 articles on the slayings, where 2 teenage girls were shot a total of 13 times. Just to make sure that the Tulsa World was not one of them right-wing wacko newspapers, I tracked the story down at the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. I gotta say, they must have some real Okies on the OSBI if they think they can catch a killer by telling everyone to bring their guns in to be eliminated as a suspect. Forty people have, so far! If I were that killer, I'd make sure they never find that gun.

Did your wife finally believe it? I posted this on a cop board with a subject of "Would you submit yours?" Most who have responded basically said Hell NO! Not without a warrant. One person who I believe isn't a cop did the "well, gee, i don't see anything wrong. After all, if you have nothing to hide..." and got taken to task for that comment.
I agree. All that they have done is to let the thug know they are looking for a 40 cal. Change the barrel, run a stone over the breechface and firing pin, and bingo, no match.

Ya know, we here in California live in a really different world. We ARE the enemy. Not everywhere is like...well, take the West Helena, Arkansas. They have been under Marshall Law since August 10....and one of the articles I read reported that the folks there were glad, or at least did not mind. The bad guys are shooting up the area so badly, and the cops are outgunned and out manned.....and I can believe it. Sebastopol Square it ain't. And no, I would not drive down to downtown OK to turn in my .40 cal, if I had one, so's the cops could finger it....but, again, not everywhere is like Sunny Sonoma. Some places have a respect for law and order as a way of life, not a command and a court order, unlike here. Remember that guy, (was it in Louisiana?) that walked up to the Marshal's escort in the airport and shot to death the puke that molested his 12 year old? As I recall the DA didn't want to EVEN prosecute him but had to as it was on TV. Jury could find no fault either. Seems the juries down there truly practice Matthew 18:6 admonition. We up here are "so civilized" that puking is a valid response to most of what's in our local rag.

As I raised elsewhere... since they are looking for .40 cal did they start with the government owned weapons in that caliber first?
