when i first saw that vid i had to post it on my facebook page. there is no greater divide than that between someone like SSG G and a boxer, pilosi, obama type.
and for every SSG G that gets recognized there are several who don't get recognized and they don't mind. they are not in it for the glory or fame. and there are many more who, given the same circumstances, wouldn't have done the same. when in battle you're not fighting for an ideal, a belief, or a country. you fight for the man to your left and your right.
I was that which others did not want to be. I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do. I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness ... should I fail. I have seen the face of terror; felt the stinging cold of fear; and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment's love. I have cried, pained, and hoped ... but most of all, I have lived times others would say were best forgotten. At least someday I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was ... a soldier.
let's also remember and pray for those who are in far-flung places during the holidays and their families who wait for their safe return.
