Maj. Richard Winters faces last inspection

PHILADELPHIA -- Richard "Dick" Winters, the Easy Company commander whose World War II exploits were made famous by the book and television miniseries "Band of Brothers," died last week in central Pennsylvania. He was 92.

Dick Winters was a stud of the first degree. As an officer, they don't come any better than old DW, who led from the front as a rule, and was described by his men as " cool as a cucumber" in combat, and one who lived by Sun Zsu's famous adage; "One must be more brutal than one's enemy to win a war".
