subdjoe: "When Emeril says "pabelno" instead of "poblano" does that mean he doesn't know how to cook? " ________________________________________________ Emeril knows his limits. He isn't running for a high office. Which doesn't really address the point I was making, does it, Mink? Here, I'll post it again without that distracting line: "Um....I saw a LOT of informational films from the 40s, 50s, and 60s where the narrator used the Oh, so wrong pronunciation of nuclear. Even a docent (or whatever) at San Onofre (how do you pronounce that, by the way? Oh-nohfree? On-o-fray? On-o-free?) used the "wrong" one in the early 70s. I remember my chem teacher in high school devoting part of one class to the proper pronunciaton - just like the book title "The New Clear Physics" , which shows how common "nucular" was as a pronunciation even in the early and mid 70s. How about Uranus and Harass, Mink? They have changed pronunciation in our lifetime. Which is the correct one? The ones we learned in school? The ones being used now? Both? Neither? What about regional pronunciations? Which one of those is correct? West coast? Southwest desert? New Yawk? N'orl'ns? Looziana? Meen-a-so-ta, pye-cholly? Baa-sten? When a Canadian says "oat" for "out" is that wrong? When a Brit says shed-dual instead of skedgual is that wrong?" Now, care to address the points about "wrong" pronunciations? I expect definative answers to all the above questions. You should be able to give us all THE propler way to pronunce everything. Oh, and how do you say "slough?" How about "plough?"

Then why in blazes aren't you critiquing it? Why aren't you going after substance? Could it possibly be that there is: 1) Nothing of substance in Palin's performance that you can actually attack or 2) You simply aren't up to the challenge to actually find something of substance so you trot out the old Bush bash reworked for a new generation. Your "critique" is so shallow it makes Governor Palin's experience look like the Marianas Trench in comparison. Thank goodness for the First Amendment or you might get locked up for dispensing BS without a license. #1- wrong #2- false Insulting me will not change palin's inadequacies. He was insulting your "critique", not you. So, how about actually trotting out things than make his first point wrong and his second one false.

#1- wrong
#2- false
Insulting me will not change palin's inadequacies.Prove me wrong, or prove the false statement. Neither (and is that knee-ther or nye-ther) statement of yours is true solely because you say it is. I think you can't prove either one (and is that ee-ther or aye-ther?) to any semblance of common debate and argument rules. My statements were clearly of opinion, while your retort was expressed as closed ended fact. I challenge you to prove one of them. Joe is correct, by the way, my rhetorical target was your critique and not you. Finally, you said above... Well then I am challenging you to put your fingers where your brain is. Please honestly critque away...... if you can. My money is that you can't.

Honestly guys, how many ways are there to pronounce "nuclear"........ #1- *If Sarah didn't know an answer, she changed the subject. *She didn't want to debate, she wanted to speak to the country instead, by telling both moderator and Biden that she would answer her way. * She didn't know anything, relying on index cards * Did I mention lack of knowledge of the issues * winking made her appear unprofessional * This familiarity maneuver, "Hey can I call ya Joe?" was inappropriate not to mention unprofessional I had to watch this twice because I couldn't belive what I heard. Palin is no VP material and now I'm wondering about our state of Alaska! #2- * I'm always up for the challenge, but sometimes work or household duties/ family relations/ group activites keep me tres busy......but there also are the times when all of you expect answer, RIGHT NOW. Shall we continue? or have you had enough?

perhaps ol' joe could have used some note cards of his own. according to your factcheck link joe was tossing out a falsehood almost every time he opened his mouth. i would expect palin, who has been more focused on alaskan affairs until recently, to miss a point or two but 6-term senator joe biden should have a better handle on the facts. he obviously doesn't.
i used to hold factcheck.org in relatively high esteem but i wonder why in this link they referred to biden's missteps as disagreements while calling palin's hooey and balderdash?

There used to be two, both about equally common. Now there seems to be one.
Now, care to take on the the other questions I posed about pronunciation? Or are you going to keep insisting that what had been a common pronunciation of a single word is a sign of diminished mental abilities?
"*If Sarah didn't know an answer, she changed the subject."
Which makes her different from Barry or Joe how?
"This familiarity maneuver, "Hey can I call ya Joe?" was inappropriate not to mention unprofessional"
At least she asked. So you must really have come unglued at Barry boy for calling Sen. McCain "John" , right?
"She didn't know anything, relying on index cards"
And Joey-boy didn't have any notes? Give me a break. At least she knew that Art. 1 of the Constitution is the job description of the legislative branch. You know, old Joey-boys job description for the past 36 years. You would think he would know it by now.
"winking made her appear unprofessional"
While the smirks, scowels, grimaces, and eye rolls of Barry and Joe are hallmarks of the cool, seasoned professioal. Um..hm.

#1- *If Sarah didn't know an answer, she changed the subject.Examples please? Which is exactly what Barack was doing in the first debate, playing to the camera and speaking directly to the people. So apparently you conveniently didn't notice Biden consulting his notes throughout? This is a statement of opnion on your part. Your opinion again. So then you weren't paying attention in the first presidential debate when Senator Obama referred to his opponent as "John" throughout the entire proceeding (as did Senator Biden I might add) while McCain used "Senator Obama" 100% of the time. Wow... now there is either a cop out or an evasion. Can't tell which. By all means, take your time. Do some research. Oh please, do continue. I've not had nearly enough of your incomplete answers, outright evasions, and statements of opinion dressed and presented as fact. Right now my money looks real safe, because you haven't hit one substantive point yet. Tell me... did you even watch the debate? Or are you building your responses from news stories and sound bites?

I think we watched different debates personally. (just kidding)
Any reaction or critiquing, is basically opinion. I gave you mine and there is no sense in going on since you find her participation acceptable. Very well, it could be if you compare it to all her blunders in previous interviews.
I provided links of professionals who checked facts of the debate as well.
Sarah is out of her league as one Republican put it and if you want to keep betting your money on a person taking a crash course on just one debate, can you imagine how much more you'd lose if she is elected?

don't forget American Samoa, Baker Island, Guam, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Midway Islands, Navassa Island, Northern Mariana Islands, Palmyra Atoll, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Wake Island, Palau, and Kingman Reef. unfortunately, they are territories/protectorates not states and don't get to vote.
