Lifted from a cops forum.
Let's talk about truth. Many of the statements made by Joe Biden during the debate have been proven to be patently either untrue or questionable. Some of the "facts" he stated were also skewed. So for you, a review of the issues:
ARTICLE 1 OF THE CONSTITUTION: While attempting to correct Palin, Biden said that Article 1 of the Constitution describes the powers of the executive branch. But Palin was correct. Article 1 is in fact a description of the powers of the legislative branch. It is amazing that a VP candidate and veteran Senator would not know this.
BUDGET RESOLUTION: Biden said: McCain voted the same way on the Budget Resolution this year as Obama. Not True- On both votes March 14 and June 14, McCain voted No and Obama voted Yes.
TAX INCREASE (on people making less than $42,000) Biden said: Under Obama people would pay no more than they did under Reagan. The top rate under Reagan was 28%. Under Clinton it was 39.5%. Obama wants to raise it to 39.5% so obviously they WILL be paying MORE under Obama’s plan.
TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.
TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.
TAX INCREASES: Palin argued that Obama’s tax increase would hit small businesses with over $250,000 in REVENUES (true). Biden spun it to say that most small business OWNERS make less than $250,000 per year. The fact is America is filled with small business that have revenues in excess of $250,000 and who file their taxes using 1040’s and they will be hit hard by the Obama tax increase just as Palin claimed.
TAXING HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely claimed that McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this.
OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.
AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.
OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”
OIL PRODUCTION: Biden claimed it would take at least 10 years to get any oil from new production- Not true! Worse case scenario even those who oppose drilling concede that it would be more like 6 years and it would take a year or two in some instances.
CLEAN COAL: Biden claimed his “clean coal” remarks were taken out of context but they weren’t “Joe Biden said just last week at a rally “We’re not supporting ‘clean coal.’ and went on to say “No coal plants here in America.” (Joe Biden, Remarks, Maumee, OH, 9/17/08)
ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.
USE OF FORCE IN IRAQ: Biden said: The use of force resolution on Iraq was not a war resolution, an authorization for war. It was….and he voted for it. Even Hillary hasn’t tried to use that excuse.
VOTE ON SUPPORTING THE TROOPS: Biden said, McCain voted same as Obama on funding the troops. Not True, Obama voted No, McCain voted Yes!
AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.
BOSNIA: Biden said McCain opposed Clinton on Bosnia. NOT TRUE – he actually supported Clinton on Bosnia.
REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.
BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”
