It's less than three weeks and a wakeup to the election. The debates are done. Barack Obama is still holding an average 5 point lead overall. Barring some kind of major faux pas on his part he will most likely be the winner on November 4 and in the Electoral College to follow.
Socialists, liberals, progressives everywhere will rejoice. We'll all line up for our first allotment of rainbow stew on January 20, with free Bubble Up for everyone. Let the good times roll.
It would be nice if that were so. But that crap ain't the truth.
The truth here is that the "moderate" Republicans on the East and West coasts fail to comprehend, as the socialist / liberals / progressives do too, that there is a big country in between the coasts full of people who actually have strong core values. There are a few of us in those coastal enclaves but not enough anymore to make a dent.
The truth is that the days of the "moderate" Rockefeller wing of the Republican party (that gave us every Republican president of the last 60 years save for President Reagan) have got to come to an end. It is their eagerness to reach out to Democrats in a spirit of bi-partisainship (pardon me while I spit the taste of bile out of my mouth) as a path to political power that has gotten us to the point we are at today.
Yes, Rep. Frank and Senator Dodd along with many of their socialist leaning Democrat brethern, are ultimately responsible for the financial mess we are in right now. But they couldn't have done it without the complicity and assistance of the "moderate Republicans". And it is exactly that complicity and assistance which has gotten us to the point we find ourselves at today.
We have been, essentially a single party government for the past several years... at least since 2000. And if you understand anything about California you would understand just how well single party control works out. California is teetering on the edge of insolvency with a governor who calls himself a Republican but who bends over backward to make nice with the Democrats in the Legislature (and their staffs) who really run this state and have for two generations.
In Washington these past eight years we've had a president who calls himself a Republican, and even a conservative. But he is no conservative. He has grown government and spending more than any president in history. It took him seven years to get his veto pen out of his pocket for the first time. He has sucked up to the Democrat leadership in Congress, when they have been both minority and majority and given them everything they want, even when they've turned on him, visciously in some cases, over the war and economic policy.
So now we find ourselves on the verge of outright single party control in DC and it scares the hell out of me because those who will be in highest control are all pretty much unrepentant socialists bent on continuing to grow government while telling us they are cutting it back.
And they are going to be able to do it because the damnable Rockefeller Republicans have enabled them, stood back and bent over with their cheeks spread wide to receive the rogering they so sorely deserve with a smile on their face and a song in their heart because they felt that by whoring to the Democrats and pimping socialist, big government ideas they could endear themselves to the voters and stay in power.
Well guess what... it didn't work. The Democrats have been able to roger away and walk away to blame the Republicans for causing their own misfortune. They blame crises of their own creation on the Republicans and on a Republican president while whistling past what should be their own political graves. The utter balls of some of the more strident leftists absolutely amazes me, while the utter gutlessness of even conservative Republicans makes so ill I could vomit for a week. And in the end, gullible people across the nation swallow it hook, line and sinker leaving those same, agreeable Rockefeller Republicans, soon to be out of office, with sore assholes to show for it and nothing more. The Republicans find themselves sticky, broke and confused like a stereotypical dumb blonde on the morning after a one night stand finding themselves alone in the bed and wondering what happened.
What this country sorely needs is a real conservative revolution, liike we saw in 1980 and in 1994. And those new conservatives are going to have to stick to their guns, be partisain and stand up for what's right.. They have to draw clear lines between themselves and the socialist Democrats.
Until they do, we are bloody well doomed.
