Police Respond With Guns Drawn Over Neighborhood Nerf Gun Battles
Neighborhood children are shocked at the local Wausau Police department who came with guns drawn over what is being titled “Nerf Wars” Tuesday night.
Hansen’s son was one of them. He believes local police took it too far.
“I just think at that point it got a little out of hand,” said Hansen. “Then the issuing of citations was really out of hand.”
“It traumatized my kid,” said Scott Hansen of Wausau. “He didn’t sleep last night, he didn’t sleep well at all.”
Nerf Wars is a Wausau neighborhood tradition where teams do battle with Nerf guns and other Nerf equipment. It started a few years ago at the local high school.
Wausau police say a neighbor near Stevens Street reported someone allegedly pointing a gun at a vehicle on Tuesday night. Turns out, they were Wausau West students holding Nerf guns, WAOW TV Reports.
Hansen’s son was one of them. He thinks police took it too far and may have emotionally scared his child.
