He took on a snake once, but I wouldn't let him go into action and he was pissed! Actually, he did take on the dogs. He didn't have to be the decoy A garter snake shouldn't be a problem for a cat. I just would worry about a rattlesnake. I agree that he was brave to be the decoy against the pits. I think I'd be afraid of even one angry pit, even if I had a club!

It may have been a gopher snake, but we didn't take the chance.
It mocked a rattler.

It may have been a gopher snake, but we didn't take the chance. It mocked a rattler. Gophers are somewhat powerful snakes for their size. Although not poisonous, they can inflict serious bites, due to the size of their jaw. You played it right. Besides, snakes are good for keeping the pest population down... I always leave them alone and in peace (I've had a couple make it into the garage). I gently encourage them to leave the garage-- thick gloves prevent garters from being able to bite.

I saw this story on the news. It seems a small dog, Leo, guarded kittens in a fire and although he had to be revived with oxygen, he went right back to make sure they were fine. How precious. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27381659/
