Our Worst Nighmare

I'm on a lot of mailing lists - some of them I don't even remember. But, early in the primaries I signed up for Hillary clinton's mailer, and it's always entertaining.

However, the latest mail from HillPAC is alarming, to me, at least. This is a "personal" message from Bill Clinton:

I don't have to tell you how important this election is to our country. But I do want to tell you one thing that will make a tremendous difference for Barack Obama and Joe Biden as we go forward: A filibuster-proof Democratic Senate majority working by their side.

I think the very worst thing that could happen in November is to have both the White House and the Congress firmly in Democrat hands. The Senate, especially, is set up to demand bipartisanship between the two parties. To have a fillibuster-proof Democrat majority in the Senate would be a disaster for this country.

On the other hand, just like in 1992, it could sweep in a Republican congress in 2010. One never knows.

Further proof of what kind of damage a fillibuster-proof Democrat majority in the Setae could wreak is presented inn this morning's WSJ:

On Wednesday, Senators Chuck Schumer (D., Fannie), Jack Reed (D., Freddie) and Robert Menendez (D., N.J.) called on the Treasury to set "lending goals" for banks receiving capital injections under Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson's rescue plan. The press release issued by Senator Schumer's office complained that banks receiving public capital "may not fulfill the main goal of the Treasury program, which was to increase lending activities in order to unfreeze the credit markets." Instead, these Senators said, the banks might choose to "hoard" the cash.

"Banks must understand that these funds aren't a gift," Senator Menendez warned, ominously. And here we thought that "not a gift" was covered in the part of the plan that requires the banks to pay interest on the capital to taxpayers on a preferred basis over private shareholders.

Now that Treasury is buying bank stakes, the danger is that every politician in the Beltway will want a special dividend payable to him. This is one more reason for the Treasury, in this Administration or the next, to appoint someone to run this program who cannot be bullied. Mr. Paulson is still asleep at that switch. The Senators' letter is another reminder, if one were needed, that the sooner the feds get out of the banking business, the better for the banks, the economy and the country.

So, Chuck "Cereal" Schumer thinks he can run a bank? We're in big trouble.

The US is turning left. By the time Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and company are done, this is going to be a radically different country.

Some people just don't believe that a fillibuster-proof Democrat majority is a bad thing. well, here's more proof:

After the November election, Democrats will push for a second economic stimulus package that includes money for the states' stalled infrastructure projects, along with help paying for healthcare expenses, food stamps and extended unemployment benefits, U.S. Rep. Barney Frank said Thursday.

In a meeting with the editorial board of The Standard-Times, Rep. Frank, D-Mass., also called for a 25 percent cut in military spending, saying the Pentagon has to start choosing from its many weapons programs, and that upper-income taxpayers are going to see an increase in what they are asked to pay.

"Asked to pay"?? I can't ever recall the IRS asking me to pay my taxes.

Pay attention here, folks, because the bad actors in the world, like Putin, Ahmadinejad, Chavez, and Kim are certainly paying attention.

So, (treading lightly) I read a lot from those of you that are part of the "right" that the "left" is petty, uncooperative etc, yet this forum is LOADED full of insults about the "left."

If Obama wins what then? Does everyone that wanted McCain gather together and continue to spew hatred about the "left" or do we all come together as Americans and do our best to move forward so that we can become a thriving country again?

If Barry-boy wins expect us to give him the same reception that progessives gave GWB. I for one will pay attention to every word, every appointment, every policy decision and hammer him on every iota of difference from his campaign promises. I will also hammer him on everything that doesn't instatly work exactly as he says it will. Why should he be treated any different than Bush was?

Added: I will do the same with John-boy. But, like with Bush, I will also hammer the left when they try to lynch John-boy without cause.

Also, JMO, the left does not want us to come together as "Americans", the left wants a bunch of hypenated american groups fighting tooth and nail for the handouts the left keeps promising without any way to deliver. That is the only way the left can maintain power. Just as Engles taught.
