Had the same thing happen with sealions down off the Coronados about 20 years ago. They were herding the fish between our party boat and one that was about 400 yards way. They waited until we hooked up on a fish and got it close to the boat, then bit it off our lines. For close to half an hour they were working the school of fish back and forth between the two boats.
