No PROM PIX here! We just got back from a week in Chicago. We stayed in a hotel in downtown Chicago and it was fabulous. The city NEVER sleeps, the buildings are incredible, and the people were very friendly. I just love the city and will go again. I hope you all enjoy the slideshow, see link (click on picture): [a href=" "][/a][/url]

Thanks subdjoe. Unfortunately my old SLR film camera recently died and I haven't replaced it yet. I was using a small digital that doesn't have a view finder which made it difficult to frame the pictures. I want to buy a SLR digital camera, I've been researching the different options and just haven't decided which way to go. I am resisting the purchase since I am a steadfast film person. I wish I could slow down the sideshow but it doesn't look like Photobucket has the option. I thought it would be fun to have a thread for interesting pictures/slideshows since it's vacation time etc. I didn't want to turn this forum into the new PD forum however. Treading lightly here...

JMO, where'd you stay? My wife and I were just back there in May. We started and ended a Midwest driving trip in Chicago. When we arrived, we stayed at the Chicago Hilton on Michigan Ave, with a great view of Millenium Park. At the end of our trip, we stayed at the Palmer House, an older, restored hotel downtown.
We had a great time in Chicago: great architecture, Wrigley Field, great transit, crummy weather.... just Chicago!

jgaffney, We stayed at the N. State St. Embassy Suites in downtown. There are two Embassy hotels in Chicago, the other one is located on N. Columbus Dr. and it supposedly offers water views but when we walked by it we weren't impressed. The N. State St. location was great we had easy access to many restaurants, Trader Joe's etc. See link: www.embassysuiteschicago.com/photo_gallery/The public transit is pretty good, well, except for the one day we decided to take a bus to the Field Museum and it broke down! It took us an hour and a half to get there since a replacement bus had to be called in, and then just for an extra zing it rained! I have in-laws in Palos Park it's about a half an hour SW of Chicago. We took a train there one day and it was a really easy way to travel. I would hate to drive in Chicago since they drive like crazy people. My other half wanted to stay with the in-laws for the six nights we were there, but I politely (sometimes not so politely) declined. It is difficult to spend that much time with others in their home, and I really wanted to experience the city on my own time schedule. An expensive whim on my part, but it was worth it! I love Chicago, it's a diverse large city with old and new architecture, great restaurants, museums, and the people were very friendly. Michigan Ave. is like Disneyland for adults! I couldn't break free from my family long enough to do some serious shopping, but I will plan on it the next time we go for sure. One reason we went to Chicago was because my father in-law passed away last Dec. (he was in his 80's, and had Alzheimer's disease) and the family had a memorial dinner for him since that is where most of the family is from. The dinner was held at a Czech restaurant in Cicero (see link: www.klasrestaurant.com/) because many years ago my father and mother in-law frequented the restaurant. The food was good, ethnically authentic, but not the best for cardiac health! See the virtual tour for the Old World decor, and artistry. My father in-law was a FBI Agent in Chicago for many years, and the stories people shared about him were interesting. He was always kind to his informants, would even have them over to his home for dinner! Can you imagine? YIKES! When we go again in the future I would definitely want stay in the city again!

WOW! I just took a virtual stroll through the Palmer house, it is absolutely beautiful! The Chicago Hilton also seems very nice. The most upscale hotel we ever stayed at was the Atlantis at Paradise Island, Bahamas. www.atlantis.com/ We were there partially for business, and of course for fun! We were able to see former President Gerald Ford, James Carville and Mary Matalin speak at the conference. Our lives have changed a bit since them. Those were the days...
