"and I'm completely against hunting" -So I take it you're a vegetarian? Well, once in a while (like today), I have "cod" breaded, like for fish and chips, and the fish thing is good for you, but I hate it. But almost always I am a vegetarian, but my husband is not. He keeps trying to convert me to being a meat eater.

I love a good beef roast, or prime rib with mashed potatoes and tons of gravy, and when I feel like something lighter I will eat sushi (sashimi) until I'm stuffed, but if I visualize what it is I'm eating it's all over! I have had venison, but honestly those cute little Bambi eyes haunt me and I haven't been able to choke it down for a while. It's all in what you tell yourself I think. Could I kill any of it to eat it? Maybe if I was hungry enough, otherwise the neat packaging at the store is the last thing I see before it hits the pan and that is a lot easier to deal with.

Sorry to seem a bit confrontational. I just can't stand people who chastise me for hunting and have no problem sitting down to a pork chop dinner. I have actually been called "scum" when people find out that I enjoy hunting. My favorite is when I ask them if they eat meat. I have gotten a haughty response of "well its ok because I didn't kill it". No kidding. Im sorry if you took it that way I surely didnt mean to offend you I was just reflecting on my own personal experience.

Wow, nacosta, I actually thought you were being facetious......but good for you! Although, I have respect for hunters, I can't do it, but will enjoy an occasional filet mignon, baked potato with butter, sour cream & cives or green onion and a nice salad with a lovely glass of wine.
I think for a hunter or anyone who eats, should appreciate it, whether it being meat, fish, poultry or a plant, has given up its' life......so appreciate it and enjoy.

Ok, I am firmly against hunting, and I'm mostly a veggie, but I won't chastise anyone for being a meat eater or a hunter.
Meat eaters, I understand, hunters - you do what you want. I am a complete animal lover. A couple of deer darted out in front of me on Fountaingrove Ave, up at the top, (this was a few weeks ago, and this is actually a NIGHTMARE of mine), but I stopped, and they went on.
I'm actually still shaken up, and I keep PRAYING that I never hit any deer, ever. I think I'd have a breakdown if I did. I love deer so much. But I also understand that they get too populous, etc, and need to be hunted at times.
However, please God, don't ever let me hit and kill a deer. I just would not be able to handle it.

Anonymouseperson, the word you want is "omnivore" which is what humans are by nature. Only in a few extreme cases are we either totally carnevore or vegitarian.

Thanks, Surefire. Big Dog weren't no slouch either. I know I went afield from what the PD writer, Mr. Sweeney, wanted. But I see it all a part of the whole. And anytime an artilcle starts off the way his did, "Let's start with what this is not. It is not a suggestion that firearms are never used in self-defense." and then in the next paragraph: "And let's get past supposed biases and motives, too. I'm not opposed to firearms or private ownership of firearms." you can be sure that the writer just wants to regulate them out of existance without an actual ban on them.

I'm new heaer and perhaps not clear on the debate, if any, From m y perspective I'd rather stalk, killl and gut every animal I eat. In response to some I AlWAYS thank the animal I've taken-it;s ritual. I sit with it and honor the hunt- we're in it together. Yet, then I hang it and slaughter it as part of that same ritual. I have elk, venison, pig and abalone in my freeze- is that wrong???

I love abalone!! Unless one dives or you know a generous diver, you just can't find it anymore-good for you!

LOL- the hunter lays quietly in his kelp stand, waiting patiently for the magnificent abalone to walk by. He parts the leaves for a clear view and freezes, he thinks he has spied the sun glinting of the shell of a 15 incher.
