Firstly, I hope that the kids who attempted to, and then did stop, the attack are properly rewarded and heralded as good kids who should be emulated. Their school should put them on a pedastal!
Secondly, in my experience, kids like this become this way for two simple reasons. They have ineffective parents/adult role models and they are taught over the course of growing up that they will not really face the consequences of their actions.
Bad parents can be from any walk of life, any profession, any ethnic/national/political group, and it is foolhardy to try to blame "a group" of any kind for that part.
I dealt with kids who felt they could get away with anything. Why? They knew that they could not be punished enough to deter the behavior. These days I still hear kids gloating that their parents can't really do anything to them because they'll call the police or CPS and get the parents in trouble. And I know too many parents who fear that they will be punished if they punish their children appropriately. My favorite was the 16 year old, athletic boy who called his mother an "f-word bitch", so dad (who was smaller than the kid, mind you) administered a stroke of corporal punishment. The kid called police, expecting dad to be hauled off to jail. When I got the whole story I very casually explained to the kid that he got what he deserved and I was leaving now. I never had to deal with that family again.

The look on the kids face must have been priceless.

Bush's No Child Left Behind wasn't too good for kids. Oh, and abstinence-only education is a failure as well, evidenced by Bristol Palin's predicament. And that has exactly what relationship to this emotionally distrubed childs violent beating of a Bus Driver? You can spin it anyway you like. Spin until you get dizzy and fall for all I care. This has absolutely nothing to do with No Child Left Behind.

This gets laid at the feet of the feel good social engineers who have controlled the schools for the past 30 years. Why doesn't it get laid at the feet of the President who took us to war and instilled a sense of fear and violence in youth all across our nation. We need a jaw drop to the floor emoticon. Because when I read the above statement, the shear stupidity of it made my jaw drop to the floor.

I never had to deal with that family again. One thing I have not seen come out in this thread so far, except in my first response to saunterelle, is that these kids where on their way to a school for emotionally disturbed children. So, pretty much everyone on that bus had some type of issue. The bus driver pulled over because there was an incident you could not see with the camera taking place, and she radioed for help. That is when she was attacked. Pretty much, this kid needs to get some mental health treatments. Putting him in adult jail will not provide that service. Though you may be able to try him as an adult in Florida and still get services provided to youthful offenders. Trying him as an adult will also mean a longer period of supervision when his release comes.

My comments were in response to the comment "L I B E R A L S thats what's wrong" that goes no further in describing in what way liberals caused this kid's awful behavior.
Joe's explanation that somehow "social engineers" have taken over our schools and their "feel good" policies are making our kids violent doesn't make any sense.
At least the war explanation is a valid one. If our government can attack people who did not harm us, why can't this kid?

At least the war explanation is a valid one. If our government can attack people who did not harm us, why can't this kid? Well, in reality it is, but in a roundabout way in my opinion. When I was growing up Mom's were at home and Dad's went to work to get the money to pay for everything. Then, along came the Gender Feminist movement that ridiculed women who stayed home, causing a huge exodus of people into the job market and away from the home and the children. This caused the economy to adjust to the greater disposable income, increasing prices, forcing the remaining moms and all future moms to have to work. This created the latch key kids of today. So, in a roundabout way, leftist ideologies are responsible for the lack of supervision which creates kids like this one.
