I don't find this to be surprising after living in the southern part of Texas for 6 years, but this mentality is no less disgusting to me years later. This is the attitude of many in the south and I'll never forget the day I went to our local 7-11 only to witness the local KKK dressed in robes flocking to their meeting place right next door, it was a real eye opener for sure.
Ignorance at it's finest:

i'm not surprised either although the wizard didn't specifically issue or reference a "death threat." i also wouldn't be surprised that if you did deep enough you could find hateful feelings from groups like NOI.
you sure do have a chip on your shoulder when it comes to southerners, eh JMO? did you notice that the state they focused on was illinois? hate groups are quite prevelant in non-southern states such as washington, oregon, idaho, nevada, and CALIFORNIA.
as despicable as the wizard is he did make one point that i found interesting: the mexican invasion is actually filling his ranks with new recruits. where are the people who say that we are filling al quaeda ranks by being in iraq? why aren't they saying the same about illegal immigration vis-a-vis US hate groups?
he is also correct about one other thing: if a shot is taken at obama by a white person (and it would only take one nutjob) it will certainly cause blame to be laid once again at the feet of ALL whites.
*added* i would also be a bit suspect of the source in this video: the southern poverty law center. come one, now.

Yeah, the grand whatever, and his nutso minions are 5 bottle shy of a six pack. One thing I did notice, it showed a huge growth in the number of GROUPS, but didn't say much about the total number of people involved, although it did say that the number is growing too. I wonder how many of those groups are jerks who left one and started their own either for greater ideological purity, or so they could be at the top of the dung heap.
I hate to say it, but I can sort of understand 'young white males' getting involved with crap like this. After decades of being the last group it is OK to hate, they are choosing to hate back. I don't agree with it, but I can sort of understand it. OTOH, it wouldn't upset me if all the members of all the hate groups (including groups like the Panthers, Nation of Isalm, Mecha, etc.) disappeared from the face of the earth.

TNG, I was merely stating that I have witnessed this in the south where the KKK and bigoted mentality is not uncommon. I did see the statistics before posting.
I don't have a chip on my shoulder I just don't like bigots no matter where they live.
You're probably right if the sniper was white it would start a wave of hate throughout our country and we would once again become a regressed society. That would be a shame for sure.

subdjoe, I wasn't going to post this, but, my son has mentioned his interest in researching the history of Hitler and my parents and I both have concerns of his intentions since he is still in jail and that is where he is doing his "research." Did you notice the mention of inmates and white supremacy/hate crimes?
I hope my son is just curious and is trying to expand his knowledge of history, if it's anything other than that he can expect a consequence from his family.

you do have a chip on your shoulder. if i remember correctly you lived in ONE town in texas and from that you draw conclusions about ALL southerners. from that you believe that ALL southern (whites, at least) are rednecks, wear pointy white hats , drive pick 'em up trucks with gun racks, and stop off at the 7-11 to grab a six pack before the big cross burning rally.
talk about stereotyping. geez!

TNG, if the boot fits...
I think it is you that has the chip. I am not saying ALL people, I am saying many in the south have very different views say from CA toward races other than whites. You know it's true, yet you nitpick me.
I think you don't like my opinions so anything I post you assume the worst and take it from there.
But then, that's just my opinion...

contraire. your posts speak for themselves. you can't deny that your opinions of southerners are based solely on the short time you spent in texas, can you? did you even notice that the grand wizard was from Indianapolis???
i do appreciate your opinions most of the time.
and yes, i smited you for your stereotyping of southerners.

Taking seriously anything from the Southern Povery Law Center was your first mistake.
A more dedicated anti-American hate group would be hard to find.
Imagine moveon., huffpo, & Sharpton united as one.
Total racists.

Here is a decent site with some southern history: dixieoutfitters.net/p/southern-history Yes, it is a bit biased, but no more so, and likely less, than the PC sites about the south. Keep a few things in mind - IL and MA around the time of the Civil War had laws that prevented blacks from living in them. Blacks who overstayed were subject to flogging, fines, and being run out of the state. Until the Nat Turner revolt, free blacks in SC could vote. Not so in any nothern state. Slavery was still legal in several nothern and border states until the 13th Amendment was signed. The NY Draft riots in which blacks were killed on sight, and in which an orphanage for black children was tourched happened in (drum roll) NEW YORK! It was mainly SOUTHERNERS who ran the Underground Railroad. It was New England ship owners, using (mostly) New England built ships, and financed by Northern banking interests and investeors who were the link in the slave trade that crammed blacks into the stinking, sweltering holds of ships to bring them to the Americas. All these things were done under the Stars and Stripes, not the Stars and Bars or the Stainless Banner (contrary to current usage, the souther cross battle flag was NOT the flag of the Confederacy).

I recall the mention of the death threats to Obama early in the Democratic primaries and that he was given security.
It doesn't surprise me that either the KKK would have knowledge of the threat/s or that they carry it out themselves. One mention the wizard made that I found disturbing is the statement to go back where "we" were in the 60's. Now, why would they want that? I wouldn't be surprised if the Panthers were started just because of that era in our history. I don't agree with either group, but the KKK seems to think they have the right to put themselves above others, as did Hitler.

Ditto for the Black Panthers, Nation of Islam, and various other hate groups. Check also the works of Ron Karenga (inventor of the racist pseudo-holiday Kwanza) and his vision of an all black America. Of course, according to the p/c crowd, only whites can be racist.
You might also dig into the real history of the KKK. Started as a group to help protect southerners, including black southerners, from the predations of northern carpetbaggers during the so called Reconstruction. That was disbanded in about 1869. Some of its memebers kept the name and decended into terrorist predation. Most of these were hunted down (often by their former fellow klansmen) and disposed of, so that by the 1890s the KKK was pretty much gone. Griffiths movie, Birth of a Nation, glorified the violent racist version of the KKK, gave it some sort of aura of chivalry and integrett, and started the modern perversion of the KKK.
