Isn't this thread just so early 21st century identity politics. The Democrats / socialists / progressives here that are supporting Obama are...
*** Attacking a 17 year old girl who isn't running for anything. Piss and moan all you want about the failure of her mother's teaching of abstinence only, one clear and glaring fact remains that you people are not allowing yourselves to see. And it is one that you normally would shout from the rooftops; the age of consent in Alaska is 16, Bristol Palin was at least that old when she became pregnant.
What you are all, apparently, pissed off about is that she didn't run to the nearest clinic and have the fetus terminated with an abortion. Republicans having babies, after all, screws with your master plan of domination, doesn't it?
*** Todd Palin's DUI... oh come now. He isn't running for anything. How, exactly, does something that he (again not a candidate) did before he was even married to Sarah Heath even remotely enter into an adult discussion of qualifications and qualities to hold an elective office.
*** Troopergate, E-mailgate... all the other "gates" that the oppo researchers have dug up have amounted to absolutely nothing. There is no "there" there on a single charge brought to the table yet.
In the case of Troopergate, the (you maintain) much maligned former public safety commissioner, one Mr. Monegan, was fired (within the governor's authority mind you) for being openly and publicly insubordinate and not following direction on controlling his agency's budget. Suppose all you want, but that appears to be the straight of the matter. Of course it is intensely interesting now that his own laundry is being aired (the price one pays for being the pawn in a politically motivated witch hunt) that he himself has a past history of domestic violence.
In short and in total, once again we are going to go through the next 40 days with attack after petulant attack while completely ignoring substance. Such is the way of the modern Democrat party. Litle wonder why Joe won't caucus with them even though he has been a Democrat pretty much forever.
Well I don't need that. It sucks, all of you practicing it are assholes. See you after the election.

TNG, Mink’s replies via another forum's posts seem pretty appropriate to me since some of you seem to think women are either afraid, or jealous of Palin, and I think it is safe to say this forum is too small to fairly encompass the views of women. Do you disagree?
And, I have another question for the majority of the male posters here. How many of you can confidently say you really know how women think, or how they interact with each other. Do you all really get the multi dimensional interactions that women have, or the cat-like intuitiveness they possess? Something to ponder…
To add TNG, given your position here flexing your muscles and anger diminishes respect in my opinion. Forums are for freedom of thought and opinion is this one different?
Oh, and in YOUR forum should we limit all outside opinions, YouTube etc?
I appreciate that you started this forum so that we have a place to exchange opinions. I have been posting with most of you for 3 1/2 years and would hate to think our differing opinions will break up this group. I respect most of you that's why I decided to come here even if I don't agree with some of you I do respect the thought and research done to form opinions and posts. If one can take from a post what they agree with, great, as for the rest with a little research and open mindedness the opportunity to learn something new is quite possible and even valuable.
Just a few thoughts...

it has nothing to do with one's opinion. the point i'm trying to make is that we don't need to litter the forum with opinions copied and pasted from elsewhere. if people on The Chron forum wish to join and become part of our forum, great. they just need to sign on and be respectful. a youtube vid on occasion and links here and there are fine. i wanted to nip this in the bud before it went to far. what was starting to happen in this thread is akin to spam, IMHO.
btw, i think i speak for everyone here when i say we do respect your opinions as well as mink's, santurelles, etc. it makes for lively debate.

JMO: "TNG, Mink’s replies via another forum's posts seem pretty appropriate to me since some of you seem to think women are either afraid, or jealous of Palin, and I think it is safe to say this forum is too small to fairly encompass the views of women. Do you disagree?" _____________________________________________ TNG, I have to agree with JMO on this. The few posts I took from the Chron support the fact that many women do not want to be represented by palin, nor do they think that after many years of fighting for our freedoms do they agree with her stance on issues. In fact, palin would take women of the United States back in time. She is not truthful, which is very insulting to hard working women who possess integrity and ethics.
Had I taken just one post or even two, you may not have grasp the point. Sure, there are many liberals on this site, but they don't all agree.

Mark Morford reminds me of NYT critic Pauline Kael, who, after Nixon won, famously said "How could he have won? No-one I know voted for him!" Don't worry, Mink. Biden will drop out after he loses the debete Oct. 2nd. You'll have Hillary at last. And she'll sink The One once & for all. If you really believe Sarah is hated by women, just wait to see how men feel about Mrs. Rodham Rodham Rodham.

Big Dog, what if the age of consent was 13, is it ok for GIRLS to get pregnant then too? Geez, legal at the age of 16, what a moronic law.
If you think Sarah Palin's daughter is a fine example of abstinence only teaching because she was 16 when she got pregnant, then I just don't even have a response to that it is so ridiculous, most especially since she wants to be VP.
And, for the record, I do not want anyone telling me they know best regarding sex ed/abstinence only teaching when their own children can't adhere to the plan. Personally, I think the bar should be raised WAY higher than that for young girls/women.
When I brought up Todd Palin's DUI in was in response to that ATLAH nut job in the Obama's mama thread.
Now, for you to call people assholes, I am astounded and pretty disappointed since I have always had nothing but complete respect for you.
You know the old advice that when going to a party one should never speak of religion and politics? I guess that applies in all situations, well, unless you're in a forum where people are expected to share differing opinions and respectfully debate them...

If the good people of Alaska decide among themselves that the age of consent should be 16 in their state, what do you care? More importantly, if you are offended by their decision, do you think they care? That's why we have state governments and not one, massive federal government.

Gaffney, maybe you should read the reason why this pregnancy is so contraversial.

Quite a few women are encouraged by the selection of Sarah Palin as McCain's running mate. Our (the forum's) too few representatives of women's views ,as a whole, provides us only with a moderate to fanatical liberal or progressive bent to Ms. Palins selection. Newsweek offers an opinion of the Sarah Palin surge... To quote: "After her nomination as the Republicans' vice presidential candidate, the Washington Post/ABC poll reported a remarkable 20-point shift toward McCain. The new NEWSWEEK Poll also finds that some movement occurred: in July, John McCain led Barack Obama among white women by 44 to 39 percent; now his lead is 53 to 37 percent. There was no shift among white men, although other polls vary. One in three white women says she is more likely to vote for McCain because he chose Palin as a running mate." www.newsweek.com/id/158893So until we get enough women participants, representing a full spectrum of overlying attitudes to discussions in this forum, most of the views represented by the women in this forum will be somewhat slanted (as in the case of the Chronicle and MoveOn.org type forms and discussion groups) will be somewhat limited to DNC talking points. Of course, the same thing could be said of the majority of male posters in this forum as to adhering to the GOP talking points, but this seems to be counter-balanced with some ration thought and expressions voiced by other male respondents. Am I saying that we need some more women in this group to tone down the testosterone that's so evident in this forum and give us a more complete understanding of the woman's point of view?

Testosterone?? HERE??? You must be mistaken.
I do agree, it would be nice to get more women posting here. Heck, it would be nice to get more anyone posting here. I would like to see this forum grow to somewhere between 30 and 50 regular contributors. As it is now we have, what, about a dozen who post with any regularity? Out of 34 members.
Oh! I nee to check my muffins in the oven! And then get back to watching NASCAR while I'm reloading my brass. Hand me a beer, will ya?
