Saunterelle dodged and spun; "I was referring to harpman's views on imperialism. He admitted the true reason we went to Iraq, which proved my point that Bush's war was sold on a lie. "
Bullpucky. You got called on it and now you are trying to spin your words. Once again, care to give examples of American imperialism?
Saunterelle whined: "I certainly do have respect for our military and you have no right to call me a liar.""
Again, bullpucky. You have called many of us liars, dupes, ingorant, etc. Learn to take what you serve out to others.
Saunterelle wrote: "I have strongly disagreed with this war from the beginning,"
Fine, many people did. Many supported it. Many in Congress (both houses) initally supported it (and from their writtings and speeches at the time would have supported it under the previous adminstration).
Saunterelle continued to whine: "and pretty much everyone has finally come around to see that it was a mistake, except you people on this board. "
Care to back that up with some numbers, not your KPFA surveys? Many of us feel that the way it has evolved is a mistake. but that is what happens when you let the rest of the world influence your foreign policy decisions
Saunterelle spewed more vitriol and insults: "Many of you are bitter and defensive, I imagine you cling to your guns, you cling to religion (just like Obama said) and you can't see the forest for the trees."
My, how tolerant, diverse, and inclusive of you. Calling up the image of people cowering in a corner, holding onto their guns and praying. Study after study after study have shown that people who practice a religion tend, in general, to be happier, more able to adapt to the ups and downs of life, and are better adjusted than those who don't. Same with gun owners, much better at dealing with lifes hardships than people who don't own guns. And both groups tend to me much more willing to come to the aid of others in times of need.
Saunterelle backpedaled and spun his words: "Our military has been sent to do many wonderful and worthwhile tasks in the world. Get it straight that when I criticize this failed war in Iraq I am not criticizing the military as they were given an unwinable situation. I'm criticizing the administration, many of whom dodged the wars of their youth and it shows.
Your first sentence is correct. And one of the few of yours that has been. As for "failed war", the jury is still out. It is still a work in progress. Why don't you tell us your boy Barrys wonderful plans for Iraq, and to prevent future terrorist attacks. Details please, not just the vague "he will get us out" that the 'bamaheads chant mindlessly.
As for criticzing the admin, yeah, they need to take their lumps, but not for the reason you mentioned. They needed a clear plan for how to deal with the aftermath, they needed to not try to make the rest of the world happy with every detail. This is what happens when you let politicians (including members of Congress) rather than soldiers determine how to fight a war.
(let's see if this edit works and makes it more readable. Sorry about that, people)
