Bolverk, I've always thought the use of emoticons are useful since we are at a disadvantage when posting. Verbal language is easier to interpret because we use cadence, rhythm, volume, and body language just to name a few. It is also easier in person to get the other party to realize they are saying something different than the preconceived ideas, or stereotyping the listener may of had initially entering into the conversation. It has happened in this forum several times, and even more so recently with the election debates. I read this piece this morning: ~Just something to consider...

JMO, I have been surfing longer then the World Wide Web has been in existence. I began in the days of the Bulletin Boards. Minks use of emoticons is not to convey humor. And neither are her trite little comments. I have no place in my life for socialists, Mink is clearly a socialist in my eyes.

Not only are you pompous and arrogant, you can't admit that you are off topic too! Smiting me won't change that fact! Funny, I haven't been paying much attention to this in house bickering, but Mink's note on being smited caused me stop and stare. -9, now that's funny. BTW bolverk, I found it a complete waste of time arguing with progressives. Their circular logic is much like the ploy bible pounders use. Around and around it goes and then when you think you have them on the ropes, they come back with: "the harder it is to believe, the more faith you must have." If you are encouraged by the act of the hunt rather that the kill, then I wish you good hunting.

I find the use of emotioncons childish at best lazy at worst.
The English language is one of the fullest and most expressive in conveying thoughts and emotions. Those that are either too lazy or childish to use it properly when exchanging thoughts and ideas should stick with maybe text messaging.

Sparing use of emoticons has its place. Think of them as enhanced punctuation. The problem comes when someone uses them in place of words rather than as non-verbal enhancements or uses them in evey other post.

Yep -9, and I will keep going, as I said, until the cows come home. That will be an awful long time since they passed proposition two. They are all out stretching their legs...
