Perhaps the U.S. Should pullout of Chicago?
body count in the last six months:
292 killed (murdered) in Chicago;
221 killed in Iraq.
(NOTE: I have NOT checked these numbers. Both sound a bit high to me)
Chicago.... Who Runs it: Senators: Barack Obama & Dick Durbin Rep: Jesse Jackson Jr, Illinois Gov: Rod Blogojevich, Illinois House leader: Mike Madigan, Illinois Atty. Gen.: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike), Chicago Mayor: Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley)
...Our leadership in Illinois...All Democrats.
Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago.
Of course, they're all blaming each other!
Can't blame Republicans; they're aren't any!
State pension fund $44 Billion in debt,
Worst in country.
Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look 'em up if you want to).
Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.
This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois.
And he's gonna 'fix' Washington politics for us?
Wake Up America!

Just ban all guns, knives, and bats in Chicago.
That will end the violence.
Criminals would give up if they have to hit each other with fists.
Actually, while they're at it, ban fists too!

When was Chicago ever safe? I wonder if the mob still runs its' operations.

^street gangs typically control chicago these days
I agree that the bad parts of chicago have always been less than safe.
However, taking defensive capability out of law abiding hands doesn't help matters.

I don't touch the gun issue just because of the enthusiasts here would take offense, but if I lived in Chicago, I would feel better if those thugs didn't have weapons.
Regardless, Chicago and the crime-infested areas are a social issue. Obama didn't have to pick this area to help, but he did and for him to run for president after Bush ruined the country, reflects that he tackles tough situations.
One thing Republicans rarely touch are these kind of social issues like in Chicago. I guess these people aren't American- enough.

However, no amount of legislation removes weapons from criminals. They call 'em criminals for a reason... they don't follow laws.

Yeah, it would be great to get guns out of the hands of thugs and keep them from getting more. Any thoughts on how to do it that doesn't trample on the civil rights of honest citizens? The GOP won't touch social issues??? Bullshit, Mink. The problem is that the progressives don't want solutions to social problems and hurl epthets like bigot, racist, Nazi, and others at those who suggest effective solutions and work to block their attempts because they don't appeal to their o, so tolerant sensibilities. Progressives like those you support NEED people to remain perpetual victims. So all their programs are crafted to keep them there. This allows progressives to keep wringing their hands and bemoaning the social injustice of it all, and keep their jobs at the public trough.

Yeah, this is one of the biggest reasons gun enthusiasts claim and it could be very well true, but on the other hand, having guns around will always make it possible for anyone to get their hands on. That is the what makes this such a contraversial issue for non gun enthusiasts. It appears we will live with the gun........and criminals.

There could quite possibly be more guns on the black market than legally owned. How many innocents will die when ONLY the criminals are armed? If one is worried about the murder rate now, just wait until when the Government steals all legally owned guns from their subjects-- and only the bad guys are armed.
