Once again, blacks vote 98% Democrat anyway. If they vote for someone with their own skin color because they are PROUD, so what? Racists didn't vote for Obama out of HATE and FEAR. It is much different, wouldn't you agree?

It is much different, wouldn't you agree? You neglect the progressive whites who voted for him for no other reason than that he is black. (mixed race actually). So, if not voting for McCain for the fear and hate of having another white man as president and voting for The Obama because of that isn't racist, what is it? So, no, I don't agree. And, if blacks didn't vote for McCain because of HATE and FEAR of him, isn't that racist too?

Obama carried this state. And this is not evidence of hate crimes. Crimes overall are lower in the Southern States then the Northern, Eastern or Western States in general, going by 2007 numbers. You also neglect to say that their is no uniform definition of a hate crime in this country. Also, each State reports only their definition of a hate crime. Southern States report generally lower levels of hate crimes, some attribute that to racism and others to definition. So, jumping to conclusions and calling entire States racist is actually worse then racism itself. In fact, it is a form of racism, because you are obviously directing it to one single race of people in the south. The simple fact of the matter is, more Blacks live in the South then any other region of the United States, period. You should rely less on the LA Times and more on a variety of studies to find this information. You might be surprised to find out that this country is a whole lot less evil then you have been making it out to be on this forum. Your irrational accusations betray a very high level of mistrust of your fellow citizens, regardless of race.

Why would it matter if they do it because they are proud to see a black man reach our highest office or because they agree with his politics. Voting AGAINST someone simply because their skin is a certain color is what's wrong, and it's a completely separate issue.

As expected, racist Georgia comes to the rescue! What kind of nonsense is this post? The whole state of Georgia are now racist because they do not vote a Democrat in? Wow, what a silly statement.

I admit it was a silly statement made in the heat of the moment. But you can't argue that there aren't a plethora of racists in Georgia.

Many in the South are clinging to an era when there was rampant segregation.

I admit it was a silly statement made in the heat of the moment. But you can't argue that there aren't a plethora of racists in Georgia. I think it is somewhat safe to say that in RURAL parts of the deep south racism may be higher than average (rural parts of AL, GA, MS, LA, and SC). I think many of the cities and suburban areas in these deep south states are relatively race friendly though. I'm not lumping FL, NC, or TX into the Deep South because I consider them to be more melting pot states (lots of Westerners and northerners have moved to FL, NC, and TX). I consider these states more modern south. However, I don't agree with painting a whole state as racist. For instance, you still have racism in RURAL parts of CALIFORNIA... for instance Colusa County. The last time I was in Colusa County you couldn't go hardly anywhere in public without hearing the "N" word being thrown around, and people blaming certain races for California's problems. Just because there are some in a state that are racist doesn't make the whole state racist.

Good points, I stand partially corrected.

Many in the South are clinging to an era when there was rampant segregation. As are many in CA (especially SF, LA, and the counties of SF, Marin, and Sonoma), IL, NY, WA, OR, MA, etc. And of course there is the politically correct racism, fully sanctioned by progressives, as taught by Jackson, Sharpton, Franken, Farakan, et al. Hell, the PD just ran a piece in praise of a local maxist racist.

But you can't argue that there aren't a plethora of racists in Georgia. thank you for admitting you made an idiotic statement and saving me tons of typing. i still don't understand how voting for one WHITE candidate over another in GA is racist but whatever... as far as those wascilly southern racist...... did you know i grew up in virginia? no, not the hillbilly outposts that the LA times likes to write about. i grew up in the heavily populated southeast (prior to that i lived in DC). i grew up in "the projects" and you are absolutely correct when you say there are lots of racists in VA. what might surprise you is exactly who that racism is directed towards. imagine for a moment you are only one of a few white boys in the projects. how do you supposed that worked out for me? hmmm? i saw plenty of racism. even in my extensive travels throughout the states and the world i've seen racists practically everywhere and guess what? they come in all different flavors - white, black, puerto rican, mexican, european, asian, hawaiian, etc.
