i got the same email this morning. i subcribe to those cute little messages just to see what the other side is putting out there. i get notes from barry, joe biden, etc. usually asking for a donation. this one today was a nice thought but i also had a difficult time believing it was from the heart rather than just another political ticket punch. knowing what i know about obama it's impossible for me to believe that he really gives two shits about america and less than a shit about our military. sorry BO, but your reputation preceeds you. on a lighter note i really like avenger's idea for an independence day celebration! i think i've seen this video clip posted before but it's worth another look: i couldn't make it out to the tea party today. i've got in-laws here and although i really wanted to attend it wouldn't be right to leave them home alone. especially, since they're obamanots. i hope some of you all are able to attend and post a few pictures. Happy Birthday, America!

E-mail from our President: This weekend, our family will join millions of others in celebrating America. We will enjoy the glow of fireworks, the taste of barbeque, and the company of good friends. As we all celebrate this weekend, let's also remember the remarkable story that led to this day. Two hundred and thirty-three years ago, our nation was born when a courageous group of patriots pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to the proposition that all of us were created equal. Our country began as a unique experiment in liberty -- a bold, evolving quest to achieve a more perfect union. And in every generation, another courageous group of patriots has taken us one step closer to fully realizing the dream our founders enshrined on that great day. Today, all Americans have a hard-fought birthright to a freedom which enables each of us, no matter our views or background, to help set our nation's course. America's greatness has always depended on her citizens embracing that freedom -- and fulfilling the duty that comes with it. As free people, we must each take the challenges and opportunities that face this nation as our own. As long as some Americans still must struggle, none of us can be fully content. And as America comes ever closer to achieving the perfect Union our founders dreamed, that triumph -- that pride -- belongs to all of us. So today is a day to reflect on our independence, and the sacrifice of our troops standing in harm's way to preserve and protect it. It is a day to celebrate all that America is. And today is a time to aspire toward all we can still become. With very best wishes, President Barack Obama July 4th, 2009 P.S. -- Our nation's birthday is also an ideal time to consider serving in your local community. You can find many great ideas for service opportunities near you at www.serve.gov. What honorable words of wisdom from our President!!!

He is suggesting that you to help out in your local community. You serve for the betterment of your nation, not for your government. Have you ever been in the military? I have. Three years and three months active duty. I would never serve the country you want, a country where choices are made for you. That is not my country. I served America, not some country filled with people who think they deserve a handout.

Sorry, but I thought Obama's suggestion that if we are inspired to help out those in need and don't know how we can make the best use of our time, or talents and has offered a platform to make it easier to contribute is brilliant.
Many times I have wondered where I can best make a difference in helping out those in need and if the gov link makes it easier the problem is? Obviously nobody HAS to do anything for anyone but themselves, but if one feels compelled to lend a hand this is ONE way to do that. And this is bad because? The Democrats are doing it? What if Republicans came up with the idea?

New Guy, you have it backwards - the leftists LOVE IT when people are injured or killed, or houses burn down. That way they can point fingers and say "See! (fill in the blank) are dangerous and should be banned! Only the State can save us from ourselves!"

Obviously nobody HAS to do anything for anyone but themselves, but if one feels compelled to lend a hand this is ONE way to do that. And this is bad because? The Democrats are doing it? What if Republicans came up with the idea? I will tell you why it is bad, it is not needed. It is a ploy and nothing less. If you want to help your community, then start with the local government if you need a place to start. Who knows your community better, the people who live here or some slick Community Activist who slimed his way into the White House by lying to his own constituents in Illinois? Here is a great place to start Volunteer Center of Sonoma County, or Goodwill Industries of the Redwood Empire, or Sonoma County Animal Shelter. We don't need some Community Activist who is simply in campaign mode to tell you how to help around our community. That is just one more step to Federal Control that we do not need. It adds another layer of expense we do not want. It is redundancy we do not need. It is Obama trying to earn points by diverting your attention from his real duties and issues.
