why must we always do your homework for you? if you are going to hang around here i would ask that you at least occasionally attempt a little research on your own. the jet which costs 2.7 million was sold for 2.1. for a jet that was several years old that sounds like a pretty good deal. especially, considering that there aren't people lining up to buy one in the first place. the savings for the state of alaska not having to pay for fuel, maintenance, pilots, etc. i'm sure is plenty. palin righted a wrong in the eyes of alaskans. the previous governor bought the jet using state funds that he somehow appropriated even after he was denied the jet by state legislature and fed funding committees. palin also prefers to drive herself to work. do you really have a problem with a politician saving money by not utilizing unnecessary frills? i don't. i wish the ones in washington would take a few lessons from her on that subject. If it fits her agenda, Mink will twist anything around.

BLoverk (sic) (and said with a big cheesy grin) wrote: "He voted against a Constitutional Amendment that would have given Congress the power to ban desecration of the American Flag."
This is one (and maybe the only) thing I agree with him on. First because this issue has NOTHING to do with the governement and how it functions (which, after all is the purpose of the Constitution). Second. and more important, if our freedom of speech is to mean anything, it must extend to the that which many find objectionable or repulsive.
Anyone misguided enough to desecrate the symbol of our Republic and its freedoms as an expression of dissatisfaction with the 'oppression' and 'injustice' in our nation (I'm not saying that these do not exist, but that is another discussion), and then hide behind the laws of that same Republic for which they are showing such contempt, deserve pity. They display their ignorance of history, and their own lack of reason and maturity.
That said, I will take someone to task for desecrating a flag. That is, if I can get them to quit trying to shout me down, put aside their bigotry and hatred, and actually listen for a few minutes. Usually that is a fruitless endevor. They are often so insecure in their beliefs or ideology that they are afraid to listen to any opposing views. Oh, and I find athletes who drape a flag around their shoulders after an event, see the Olympics for lots of examples, just as objectionable as those who burn or otherwise desecrate the flag.

That was my response to gaffney's sarcastic remark here: "Why don't the Dems just bring back Larry Flint and the Ragin' Cajun? Change, my a**!" BTW, in my response I included that the Dems could bring back Larry Flint (continuing the sarcasm).......

Back on topic, palin is being interviewed (unscripted) by Charlie Gibson after being "sequestered" by the party to not answer questions from the press.
What I witness last night on World News Tonight, ( a portion of the interview) , confirmed my fear that she is not ready for VP.
She will appear on 20/20 tonight.

I don't think Obama or Palin are ready...
However, McCain is in my opinion... and Palin I believe has the intelligence to learn quickly, should McCain be unable to serve.
I'll probably be voting Libertarian in this election since I have issues with both candidates (Obama/McCain). With that said, I feel McCain/Palin is a much better option than Obama/Biden.

Surefire, have you seen the interview with palin and Charlie Gibson? Roughly 60% of it. I thought she did well, except for the "Bush Doctorine" question.

Subdjoe beat me to it. I too was going to respond with Charles Krauthammer's article. article.nationalreview.com/?q=OTU5YmYzNjU2MThhOTFiZWNmNjE4MTc5MzY3ZGRkMGY=The Bush Doctrine (s) #1... ABM, Kyoto, and the New American Unilateralism: the Bush administration policies of unilaterally withdrawing from the ABM treaty and rejecting the Kyoto protocol, #2... Either you are with us terrorists." From this day forward any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime." #3... The right of ‘anticipatory self-defense. #4... the fundamental mission of American foreign policy is to spread democracy throughout the world. "“The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands. The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world.” [Ms. Palin most visibly stumbled when she was asked by Mr. Gibson if she agreed with the Bush doctrine. Ms. Palin did not seem to know what he was talking about." I believe that it was Charlie Gibson that didn't know what he was talking about. At this point, the leftist news media are like the proverbial deer caught in the headlights as she adjusts the cross-hairs on her scope just before she drops one of them.
