FOURTH OF JULY. Well, it's near that time of year, again, when I must "SHAKE UP THE COO-COO'S". who give EXPLOSIVE, and INCENDIARY devices to their kids, to play with. These nutty Dads don't seem to think their kids will blow off their fingers or hands, or lose an eye or two, or set themselves on fire, or set their house on fire, because Dad is there to protect them.
With the problems of forest fires and houses burning down in them, It may be time for the rest of the towns and cities to ban all fireworks except those put on by Professional Firework Shooters.

Yeah, lets just let them ride bicycles that kill and injure more than half a million a year.

I am slightly upset you singled out Dads in your post. Moms are capable of being just as irresponsible (first hand experience with this). Bottom line, it IS about parenting. I teach my kids. I set boudaries that I expect to be respected, with consequences if they are not. I have allowed my kids to enjoy safe and sane fireworks under supervision in the past, maybe I will again, if I could afford to. But for now, I sit back an enjoy other people burning up 75 bucks in about 4 minutes. I don't need more rules and laws to guide me.

It really comes down to responsible parents teaching their children how to handle safe and sane fireworks in a safe and sane way.
The recent house fires were from unsupervised teens acting in an irresponsible manner (They tend to do a lot of that.)
The problem seems to be the fireworks stand, out to make a profit that sells the darn things to anyone that can reach up and put greenbacks on the counter. Maybe there should have been sting operations, like cigarettes and alcohol to prevent so many fireworks from getting into the hands of minors.
There wasn't, fires were started, and a lot of communities and towns ended up banning them. Too bad, I used to enjoy sitting out on the porch with the neighbors, maybe tipping back a cold one, watching the kids lighting them off.
It seems again, that the actions of a few bad ones have ruined it for the rest of us.
Again, the Nanny State rears it’s ugly head.

Now, Ferrous, you know that we can't have personal responsibility, someone might start feeling bad about something and suffer a loss of self esteem. Can't have that happening. Thank God we have progressive politicians who are working hard to bring about an all powerful nanny-state to keep us safe from everything.

LOL, that is why you alwas take some extra fuse, time it, and add that to any 'crackers. That way it doesn't matter if it has a fast fuse.

we used to hold black cats between two fingertips when i was a youngster (about 9 or 10). that was a true test of a man back then. seems a little stupid now even though none of us ever got more than a numb finger for a few minutes. i've fired off a number of devices with short fuses. you have to be extra quick at getting them out of your hands!

Mosquitos cause 2 million deaths a year.
Let's take ANY funding that would go towards eradicating the ever dangerous "Safe and Sane" fireworks..(SINCE FIRECRACKERS ETC ARE ALREADY ILLEGAL!!!!!!!) and put it towards mosquito abatement.......
Or wait...wait..
Outlaw horseback ridinig in SoCo it HAS TO BE costing lives in SoCo...you figure 200 US deaths per year..SoCo HAS TO factor in there...
Horse: 1,000 deaths per year Every year, horseback-riding accidents account for 50,000 emergency room visits in the U.S. alone. Of those, more than 200 end up dead. Worldwide estimates are well over 1,000 per year, though no legitimate measure currently exist. Incidentally, horseback riding was found to be the most deadly sport in the world--resulting in a life-altering injury or death once every 2,000 riding hours per participant.
NO way 200 people will die this year from Safe and Sane fireworks...... Horses now that is the REAL problem.

In my opinion, if they are going to outlaw fireworks, they should outlaw all fireworks. Rather then putting on a show that has nothing to do with celebrating our Independence and everything to do with raking in cash for the municipality. You are still a nut job Heckheckle, and you are not a patriot. I have all my fingers, eyes and toes. So do both of my children, and they are nearly full grown. So take your socialist agendas and shovel it, as Sandra Bullock said in Demolition Man.

You can't buy fireworks in Petaluma unless you are 18, and they do setup stings all the time. And, the fire in Santa Rosa that burned down the house that started the ban movement, it was set by an 18 year old adult with fireworks. They should have put him in jail for a year or two, then he would learn to think before acting. But, nooooooo.... the answer in Slanted Rosa is punish everyone else by banning fireworks.

Seems youse guys never set off a cracker with a fast fuse. Try teaching a little kid about that. Oh, forget I said it. You can buy firecrackers at a fireworks stand? In Sonoma County? Since when? Your argument is specious at best, since firecrackers are illegal to sell at fireworks stands, and have been for more then 30 years in this county.
